We believe every child should start the school year with a brand new backpack and school supplies. The reality is that not all families can afford the expense.

If you’d like to help bridge the gap for children in Mercer and Middlesex counties, drop off your donation of a $25 Walmart or Target gift card at Princeton Alliance Church by Sunday, August 20. Backpacks and school supplies are also appreciated. The goal: A Walmart or Target gift card and a fully stocked backpack for 300 local children in need (Kindergarten–12th grade). We hope to use the gift cards to empower the moms we serve to shop for school clothes with their kids just like you do.

Note: If you're feeling generous and would like to give more than a $25 gift card, please feel free to give additional gift cards in denominations of $25 each.

Donations are being accepted at the church Monday–Thursday from 9 am to 5 pm, and Sundays from 8 am to 12:30 pm. Donations can also be received at the New Jersey Athletic Center at 4152 Quakerbridge Road in Lawrenceville.

Following is a list of most-needed items:

  • Gift cards ($25 each for use toward new school clothes or shoes)
  • Backpacks
  • Black, blue, and red pens
  • Pencils, erasers, and sharpeners
  • Crayons
  • 3- or 5-subject notebooks
  • Composition notebooks
  • 3-ring binders
  • Loose-leaf paper (wide- or college-ruled)

If you'd like a PAC donation letter to attach to your receipts for tax purposes, just ask when you drop off your donated items.

The Start School Sharp event will take place August 20. It's a by-invitation event for the He Cares We Care families we serve through The Pantry. The afternoon includes a picnic, family fun, and backpack distribution. There are opportunities to help leading up to the event at the Start School Sharp kiosks in the church lobbies, and during the event by setting up, preparing and serving food, distributing backpacks, praying for families, and cleaning up.
